ECKSTEIN SCHOOL SONG

Oh, here we come the Eckstein School

Finest bunch we know

Watch our step we’ve got the pep Everywhere we go.

We’ll do our best to beat the rest

Sportsmanship our rule,

We’re out to win, so lets begin,

And cheer the Eckstein School.

Come raise a song for this our School

Finest gang we know,

March along a hundred strong,

Singing as we go.

Come cheer our sprits one and all

Mind our every rule,

And cheer The Eckstein School.

Dorothy Parrish
This ribbon reminds Geraldine Parrish Cheek of one of the proudest moments of her school life, when she was part of the Eckstein Senior Girls winning relay team, at the Hamilton County Track and Field Meet in 1948.

John and Joe (left) Saunders with their coach Glenn Hines. Glendale track coach Glenn Hines used his own funds and drove athletes in his own cars to unofficial “pick up” meets of which there are no official records. John raced against Jackie Robinson, the famous Brooklyn Dodger, and finished second, in one such meet. Joe and John credit much of their success to the coaching of Glenn Hines.

The brothers served in the US army during World War II. Their chances of competing in the Olympics were dashed because of the war.

The plaque in Saunders Park reads: “Saunders Park, named in honor of Joe and John Saunders, who together won the Ohio High School Class B Track Championship in 1935”

Jack Brock’s basketball skills helped Glendale High win the Hamilton County Basketball Championship, for the first time in seventeen years, in 1946..
