Henry Parker House, 895 Greenville Avenue - C.1873

This house is one of several homes along this street built for the officials of the Railroad. These houses were a little more elaborate than the houses built for the railroad workers and they were built from standard plans with slight variations among the houses. The house retains its original decorated porch and looks much as it looked in the 1870s. An interesting feature is the window on the porch which is arranged so that the lower sash can be raised high enough for pallbearers to carry out a coffin without having to remove their tall hats. A three-bay garage behind the house was formerly used as a stable.
